Mondonville: Trio Sonatas Op. 2

While the magnificent motets and the virtuoso sonatas for violin and harpsichord by Mondonville are widely known today, his Trio Sonatas op. 2, which were published in 1734, have until now been completely ignored by the musical world. Like the sibling works of Jean-Marie Leclair’s op. 4 (1730), they represent a highly successful fusion of French and Italian influences and offer not only first-class musical entertainment à la française, but also moments of great profundity. The musicians of Ensemble Diderot, in partnership with the Foundation Royaumont, present this rediscovery of French repertoire with youthful verve and exuberant creativity.
Si les grands motets et les sonates pour violon et clavecin de Mondonville sont aujourd'hui largement connus, ses sonates en trio parues en 1734 ont quant à elles sombré dans l’oubli. Elles présentent, tout comme leurs grandes sœurs de l’opus IV de Jean-Marie Leclair (1730), une juxta-position réussie des influences française et italienne. Avec leur élan juvénile et leur créativité pétulante, les musiciens de l'Ensemble Diderot ont réalisé ici – en partenariat avec la Fondation Royaumont – un premier enregistrement mondial de ces redécouvertes du répertoire français.
Während die großatigen Motetten und die virtuosen Sonaten für Violine und Cembalo von Mondonville heute weithin bekannt sind, wurden seine Triosonaten von der Musikwelt bislang völlig übergangen. Wie ihre großen Schwestern des Op. 4 von Jean-Marie Leclair stellen sie ein höchst erfolgreiches Nebeneinander von französischen und italienischen Einflüssen dar und bieten nicht nur erstklassige musikalische Unterhaltung à la française, sondern auch Momente großer Tiefgründigkeit. Mit jugendlichem Schwung und überschäumender Kreativität legen die Musiker des Ensemble Diderot nun in Partnerschaft mit der Fondation Royaumont die Ersteinspielung dieser Wiederentdeckungen des französischen Repertoires vor.
